I think of narrative game mechanics as a relationship between the story and the gameplay.  Specifically that the game itself is to drive the story forward and shape that story rather than to achieve some goal or defeat an enemy.

I would have liked the choice to put the woman out of her misery.  It would have seemed an awful choice the first time around but pn further play throughs it would have seemed reasonable.  And I would have liked some consequence for it.

I logged some errors I found while reading/playing. I posted my screenshots in Google Drive

You wrote (and programmed) a very cool adventure!

Thanks very much! I think I've fixed all of these - the last time I fixed an error it looks as though an old version (with more errors) was uploaded so it should be fine now.   :)

Though I had two other favorable endings -- "You could never abandon a child" and "You know the children will follow you wherever you go," ending one is my 'true' ending: "You managed to find freedom."

At first I thought I had seen most, then I discovered a totally different path (mainly be being random in my decisions!).

I peeked at the Twine source and see that I'm prob not even half-way through the possibilities!

Save functionality was a great time-saver, though!

What is your interpretation of the story? / Re: Your interpretation of the story

  • Decisions have consequences
  • people can do terrible things
  • even kids can do terrible things
  • kids need help and guidance from adults
  • trusting others can be difficult (someone might be trying to help us)
  • the Dr. is a serial killer and forces kids to dismember bodies
