General Discussion / Re: glitches

Thank you for this. I will investigate!

Not sure what has happened here as it never did this in the previous versions and nearly all of the code is the same.

Important information / Background Information - Updated

A little bit of background information about the study:

I'm researching into narrative game mechanics- mechanics that tell a narrative or contribute to the game's narrative/story. When successful they should encourage the player to interpret the story. A game that doesn't have an explicit story, like Inside (by Playdead) makes good use of narrative game mechanics as the player needs to interpret the events happening in the game.

As part of my study, I'm looking at whether narrative game mechanics are present in interactive fiction- a text-based format that has been shown to have game-like qualities.

This game is designed to be used as an exploratory tool. Its purpose is so that I can try and establish from a writing/design perspective how narrative game mechanics might present themselves within interactive fiction. The game is to be used as an iterative tool, with the feedback provided being used to help narrow down where any narrative game mechanics are being used.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

I logged some errors I found while reading/playing. I posted my screenshots in Google Drive

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SD2USv2dEGoDtog_Pl5R0wOe9-11XaHh

You wrote (and programmed) a very cool adventure!

Thanks very much! I think I've fixed all of these - the last time I fixed an error it looks as though an old version (with more errors) was uploaded so it should be fine now.   :)

In every passage in the game you need to make a choice from the links to proceed. Are there any choices that you think/wish could have been offered in addition to the current ones?

On the page where you search the coat pockets, if you click on the sweet wrapper's text before the handkerchief, the word "inside" incorrectly (I assume) links to the option related to the eyeball. I assume this happens because the word "inside" is used twice on the page? If you investigate the handkerchief first, it works as I think it's intended. You can still progress normally from there, so it's not a game-breaker, just confusing.

Thanks for letting me know - this should be fixed now.

General Discussion / Re: Ending hints
« on: November 27, 2017, 05:35:12 pm »
I was able to get six endings! I believe I saw all but ending #3. I was able to get Parenthood, Acceptance, Teacher, No Escape, Punishment, and Freedom, in more or less that order.

It's a 50% chance to get either ending 3 or 4. Follow the same path for Punishment and try again  :)

Does anyone require any hints on how to get certain endings?

Ah alright. But shouldn't you be able to go back to the 2nd hallway then? It's where you came from.

You would if the door wasn't bolted and rusted shut-but it is so you have to move forward instead.   :)

The blank door next to the boys dormitory leads back to the hallway next to the girls dormitory. It doesn't have big consequences but you might want to fix that.

Hi- don't worry it's supposed to go that way. The two hallways are almost a mirror image with the blank door separating them.

So this project is part of your PhD. In which university or institute you are doing your program? Is your PhD part of a larger amount of studies concerning specific topics?

Hi- I'm a student at the University of Bedfordshire. The specific focus of my study is narrative game mechanics and trying to contribute to their definition and understanding as there is currently no formal academic definition. It also involves trying to create an analytical framework in order to analyse any believed narrative game mechanics.

Hopefully that helps
