Title: What would you identify as the game mechanics in this game?
Post by: Feuillage on November 18, 2017, 03:13:08 pm
It's an escape game. You start from scratch in an intriguing situation and try to escape by using the things you can interact with.

One interesting mechanic was the countdown for critical situations. Instead of telling you right away "wrong choice, you're dead", it leaves you a chance to have the right reflex and sort things out.  :D

Exploration is also a big part of the game (as it often is) since there is no map.

The Inventory is also a mechanic, which is kept pretty simple here. No combining objects or choosing what to pick.

having an option to choose between several paths within the game was the main mechanic.

In addition to manipulating objects and exploration, another game mechanic is information. Bits of information in the game function kind of like invisible key items. For example, when you arrive at the end of the game, you get different dialog depending on if you met the woman. Your choices and the information both come into play at least one ending where the serial killer "The Surgeon," who you learn about through newspaper clippings, is relevant.

Clicking hyperlinks to choose the next passage.

I would also say that, at least for me who only played a small part of the game, reading interpretations and feedback here on this forum is a kind of meta-mechanic.
